3 Steps to Harness your Gifts for Wellness.

 

Often we humans get strongly attached to the outcomes we desire in life and if these do not meet our expectations we tend to get deeply disappointed. Focusing constantly on these feelings of disappointment we begin to sow seeds of Unwellness!

If you have felt that way, consider taking these 3 steps that will shift your view point and harness the power of your gifts to make roads for your Wellness.

 

1. Finding your Gifts

Expand your vision, look at yourself and what surrounds you. You will soon find you have been blessed with countless gifts that you were not even aware of or have taken for granted… and that life itself is a gift!

You have the miraculous gift of a self regulatory body. A heart that constantly beats itself… A digestive process that works to provide nourishment from the food that nature provides … Breath that provides you with life and countless other automated processes that give you the gift of livingness and human experience on Earth.

You will find you are surrounded with an abundance of gifts from Nature! The Sun that gives our days Light, warmth, nutrients, cheer… The Earth that houses us, grounds us, shelters innumerable other creatures and forms of life, grows infinite variety of trees, plants, herbs, vegetables, fruits that provide us with healthy and tasty feasts, nourishment, healing colours, herbs and sounds. The Atmosphere, seas and forests that provide us with healthy frequencies and rich ions. The life giving air we breathe, the water we drink, the darkness of night so we can recuperate…

 

2. Appreciate your Gifts

Once you awaken to the presence of these rich gifts, you will never take them for granted or abandon them. Let us not come to this realisation once we are unwell, for Wellness itself is a gift ! Take time to appreciate the gifts life gives and what they bring to you…  We are sentient Beings and have the unique gift to feel and experience.. Linger in the morning rays of the sun, watch the amazing colours of the sunset, the calm moonlight, the twinkling of stars in the vast sky, the aroma and colour of flowers, the amazing shapes and tastes of varied plants and fruits, feel grateful for them and remain in a state of awe for this bounty!

 

3. Focus on the feelings of Gratitude

Learn to repeatedly focus on your gifts, the feelings of gratitude and the state of awe they bring. Focusing on the feelings of Gratitude brings joy to the heart, triggers the release of  healing chemicals by the body laying strong grounds for your Wellness!

Research has found that enjoyable voluntary exercise increases BDNF levels more than enforced forms of exercise. It also means that you will stick with doing it and thus reap its health promoting rewards.

Do Something Regularly and preferably Daily

Research shows that shorter periods (twenty to sixty minutes) of daily or frequent exercise is more effective than longer periods of infrequent exercise.

Add Variety to your Exercise Regime

Incorporate exercises that provide Novelty and Variety to your exercise regime which improve agility, balance, coordination and also prevent boredom.

Get Outdoors

Exercising outdoors especially in quiet green spaces improves blood flow to the brain, an important factor in brain function . Additionally sunshine and Vitamin D has also been found to increase BDNF levels.

The Bony Benefits of Prunes.

 

6 Prunes a Day!

 

The substantial benefits of eating 6 Prunes per day for Bone Building has been concluded by a recent Clinical Study led by Researcher Dr Shirin Hooshmand !

 

The Study ran a six month trial with 48 women in their late 60’s/early 70’s with diagnosed Osteopenia.

16 participants ate 50 grams, (approx 6 prunes) per day, 16 others ate 100 grams (approx 9-10 prunes) daily and the remaining 16 formed the Control group that ate dried apples.

The Bone mineral density in the Hip, Lumbar spine and Forearm were measured of all the participants.

Other factors like Vit D status, Calcium intake, Exercise, Diet which affect Bone Health were also taken into consideration.

In the Apple eating Control group the BMD remain unchanged or decreased.

In the other 2 groups the Spine density increased while the Forearm and Hip BMD remained the same.

The difference in BMD increase was not significant in these 2 groups.

However in both groups (not Control), a specific marker of Bone resorption called TRAP-5b was found to be significantly lower at 3 months and 6 months of the Study, indicating that eating either amount had long lasting positive impact on bone turnover.

It was thus concluded that 50 grams (6 prunes) was adequate for most women to get such Bone benefits.

 

So to get this magical number of 6 in your daily diet, aim to eat 2 prunes after each meal!

Detox and Cleanses are very much talked about these days as the way back to good health.

It is worth noting that the body has its own natural detox methods and channels in place. The body is detoxing when we Sleep, the liver is cleansing the blood and Human Growth hormone is being released. It is detoxing when we eat high quality Food, Herbs and Spices. It is detoxing when we Breathe and Oxygenate it well. It is detoxing when we Exercise and Sweat. It is detoxing when we Drink the right amount of fluid. It is detoxing when we provide it Sunlight and Healthy vibratory frequencies.

The body also detoxes when we have any kind of Naturopathic treatment, of which there are many, including Massage.

For the body to detoxify naturally it is extremely important that its channels of elimination and detoxification are open. Detoxification occurs through all major channels of the body, Sleep, Bowel, Liver, Kidneys, Lungs, Lymph, Skin…

For Detox and Cleansing to happen naturally we need:

  • Good sleep
  • Wholesome clean and nutritious food
  • Good balance of fluids

It does not make any sense to do any other ‘DETOX’ if we are not doing these things.

Many people feel better when they do stringent ‘DETOXES OR CLEANSES’.  This could be mainly because their system is weak and they feel better with less food to digest. They will feel better temporarily, but what happens over a long period of time with repeated detoxes. The Digestive power of the body keeps going down. So this is not really detoxing, the body is just getting relief from not eating that much. Detoxing with a lot of fasting and digestive flushing could also really dry the body and affect the sleep.

What are the factors to consider for undertaking DETOX AND CLEANSES.

AGE:  The older the body gets the greater its need for rejuvenation and the gentler any external detox or cleanse should be that is undertaken.

CONSTITUTION: According to the Ayurvedic classification of the Constitutions, the heavier, KAPHA constitution people are in more need for  and can tolerate detoxes better.  The thinner, VATA people generally do not tolerate it well.

VITALITY:  People with lowered vitality do not tolerate strong detoxes and need to go gently.

SEASONS: It is better to detox in the warmer summer months and have warm nourishing food in the winter months.

LIFESTYLE: Has the person been leading a generally healthy lifestyle for much of their life or are they jumping into a cleanse for the first time? If so, it should be gentle and they would have to go slowly. Is the person on any Medication? Are there any Addictions? What is the seriousness of their overall health problem?

Additionally of great importance is to have adequate Rest, Peace and Quiet during this time. Detoxing should not be undertaken in an environment of Stress and High activity.

 

To summarize, For detoxing the body:

1. Support and Boost the natural channels and mechanisms which the amazing intelligence of the body has put into place.

2. Then consider various other factors before undertaking any DETOX or CLEANSES, when required so they can be of maximum benefit.
